The Hawaii Association
for Marine Education and Research, Inc. (HAMER) is a not-for-profit 501
(c) 3 corporation founded by Mark Deakos, and has been in operation
since May 4, 2004.

HAMER was created for the purpose of better
understanding and protecting Hawaii’s marine resources through scientific
research. HAMER’s secondary
mission is to communicate new and current research
findings to the scientific community, government officials, and the general
public.
Company Profile
HAMER offers the scientific expertise to carry out field
research on marine animals. This includes marine mammal stock assessment
research as well as other investigative research on the biology and behavior of
marine animals and their habitat.
We also offer training and education services about
marine mammals, research methodology, conservation, and current research
findings.

specializing in not-for-profit corporate law, and Gary Miyashiro, a certified
public accountant experienced in not-for-profit corporations. Andrea Reeves, who
possesses a masters in business communications, is assisting with grant
applications, and Sue Mason, a high school teacher, will help with HAMER’s
education mission.
